Chen: China will continue supporting sovereignty of Serbia (B92, Tanjug)

Ministry of Internal Affairs State Secretary Biljana Popovic-Ivkovic met yesterday Ambassador of China to Serbia Chen Bo, Serbian media report. They discussed concrete forms of cooperation between the two states in the area of internal affairs and a new request of Kosovo to join Interpol. Ambassador Chen Bo said China would continue supporting Serbia in defending its sovereignty and the international law, the Ministry said in a statement. Speaking about the new request of Pristina to join Interpol, Popovic-Ivkovic noted that Serbia particularly appreciates the stance of China on respecting the international law, and by this territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia. She also thanked China for the support provided during last year’s voting in Interpol, against Kosovo membership to this international police organization. She underlined that Serbia, along with its friends, managed to prevent politicization of Interpol, that would cause unforeseen consequences for all member states. She repeated that only UN member and observer states can be members of Interpol, and that possible admission of Kosovo to this police organization would constitute violation of the international law, foremost UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
