Speaker Veseli fails to secure KLA veterans’ support for special court (Koha)

Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli had a meeting today with representatives of Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) associations in a bid to convince them to support the establishment of the specialized chamber and not protest against it. The meeting took place behind closed doors and lasted for over two hours. After the meeting, Veseli said he stressed the importance of the establishment of the chambers in order to clarify allegations against the KLA war but KLA veterans said the war was just and fair and “needs no cleaning from any court which in fact is only aimed at staining it”.

Protesters call on MPs to vote against special court (RTKLive)

The protest organized today by the Kosovo Liberation Army War Association against the special court, ended peacefully in Pristina. The protesters called on Kosovo Assembly MPs to vote against the establishment of the special court, and said that they would organize other protests if the Assembly decides to vote in favor of this court. They also criticized the justice system, saying the detention of the accused in the Drenica Group case, was one-sided justice. The protest was also supported by the Vetevendosje Movement, Initiative for Kosovo and some PDK MPs.

University of Pristina to decide on demands of the war veterans (Indeksonline)

Kosovo Minister of Education, Arsim Bajrami said today that Kosovo Government will respect the autonomy of University of Pristina (UP) to find a solution for the demand of the former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) war veterans for automatic admission of 1000 students who are children of war veterans. Bajrami said that he will meet with representatives of both parties, and urges them to find a solution as soon as possible, in conformity with applicable laws and agreements.

Kosovo War Veterans Threaten Pension Protests (Balkan Insight)

Kosovo Liberation Army veterans vowed to protest if their war pensions don’t start in January, but the authorities said that a verified headcount of ex-guerrillas still needs to be finished.

The head of the Council for the Protection of the Rights of KLA Fighters, Xhevdet Qeriqi, warned on Tuesday that veterans would take to the streets in protest if the authorities don’t start paying the ex-guerrillas’ pensions at the beginning of 2015.

War veterans demand the resignation of UP rector (Radio Kosova)

The KLA war veterans protest today in front of the Pristina University (UP) Rectorate, demanding the automatic admission of 1,000 students who are children of war  martyrs. Radio Kosova reports that the organizers of the protest, after a short confrontation with police, managed to enter the Rectorace and met with UP rector, Ramadan Zejnullahu, but they did not reach an agreement. According to Radio Kosova, the protesters threatened with violence in case that the rector Zejnullahu, did not resign.

KLA Veterans: Ready to come to the aid of Albanians in FYROM (Gazeta Express)

War Veterans of the Kosovo Liberation Army issued a press release today saying they are ready to use all their capacities to come to the aid of Albanians in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. “The problem of Albanians in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia does not date from the latest protests or by the politically-framed Monstra case. Rather it is a problem that dates from 1912 when after Albania declared its independence, the Serbian Kingdom forcefully occupied Albanian territories. The artificial Macedonian nation was formed during Tito’s Yugoslavia.
