Serbian ambassador says Palmer should not have agreed to be special envoy (N1)

Serbia’s Ambassador to Russia Miroslav Lazanski said on Tuesday that US diplomat Matthew Palmer should not have agreed to be special envoy for the Western Balkans.

“If he had studied history a little he should not have accepted. All envoys either died or were dismissed, from Richard Holbrooke to Hoyt Lee. I don’t know of any envoy to the Western Balkans who succeeded. This is something that every smart American politician should avoid,” he told the N1 morning show.

Serbian Ambassador in Moscow Miroslav Lazanski told Serbian public broadcaster RTS on Tuesday that Washington does not consider the Kosovo issue closed.

He says that today's meeting between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and US State Secretary Mike Pompeo shows that Washington insist on the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue to continue.

Foreign policy commentator of Belgrade-based daily Politika and military analyst Miroslav Lazanski told RTS if Washington pressures Pristina to move towards compromise solution then a way out of the current situation is possible. According to him Europe showed infirmity regarding Kosovo. Lazanski added that Americans publicly say one thing, while the other thing is being done behind the scene.

Speaking for RTS morning program Lazanski assessed the situation in the north of Kosovo as complex saying, “Pristina did not spend the time sleeping.”

Serbia's new ambassador to Russia will be Miroslav Lazanski, a member of the Serbian National Assembly from the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), and a military commentator.

The proposal to name Lazanski as the head of our embassy in Moscow was adopted at a government session last week, Vecernje Novosti daily reported.

Lazanski will be replacing Slavenko Terzic, who's four-year term as ambassador expired back in 2017.

Serbia needs cooperation with NATO for the sake of security of Serbs in Kosovo, says Miroslav Lazanski, Serbian media reported.

This member of the Serbian Assembly from the ruling SNS and Politika daily columnist stressed that he was "yet to see a single statement, including from NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg, about Serbia having to join NATO."
