Following the extraordinary sessions of the Serb majority municipal assemblies in northern Kosovo, mayors of Mitrovica North, Leposavic, Zvecan and Zubin Potok have resigned, Serbian national broadcaster RTS reports.

The reason is, as Mitrovica North Mayor Rakic ​​said discriminatory policy of Pristina. Courts in these towns also stopped working. The bodies/authorities under the Pristina administration in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, therefore, no longer exist. Communication with the provisional institutions in Pristina is discontinued, RTS added.

Artificial lake and hydro-plant “Gazivode” are of strategic importance for survival and future of Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija, and together with “Trepca” and power station “Valac” are strategically important to Serbia as a whole, mayor of Zubin Potok municipality, Stevan Vulovic told RTS.

Mayor Vulovic is convinced Serbia would manage to preserve it as its own property.

Regardless if they are active in formal or informal groups, women are the largest and safest resource for peacebuilding, concluded participants at the regional conference “The role of women in peacebuilding processes in the Mitrovica region," Radio kontakt plus reported.

Representatives of institutions, international and non-governmental organizations spoke about women’s leadership in peace and trust building, the impact of conflict on women, encouraged their participation at all levels, and about women’s involvement in conflict prevention and resolution.
