EP’s foreign affairs committee supports draft resolution on Kosovo (Koha)

European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee passed today a draft resolution calling on five EU countries that have not recognised independence of Kosovo to do so. The draft resolution, prepared by EP Rapporteur for Kosovo Ulrike Lunacek, received 35 votes in favour from the members of the committee and 7 against. Lunacek said she hoped that the draft would also receive the support of the European Parliament members during a plenary session that will take place in March.

The upcoming report of the European Parliament’s rapporteur for Kosovo, Ulrike Lunacek, states that despite the progress made by Kosovo authorities, Pristina needs to step up its fight against traffickers who are enabling people of Kosovo to migrate to EU countries. The report calls on Kosovo authorities to clearly explain to the people that there is almost no possibility of them acquiring the asylum status in the EU. The report, to be voted by the European Parliament, also expresses concern over the high level of unemployment in Kosovo, especially amongst the youth.

McAlister: Serbia to harmonize foreign policy with EU (IRS)

  The first draft of the resolution of Serbia, done by European Parliament rapporteur David McAlister, reads that Serbia ought to continue the reforms and harmonizing its foreign policy with the EU. The parliament greets the devotion of the Serbian Government to the reforms and European integrations, it is written in the document that will be before the members of the foreign Policy Committee of the EP on 19 January.

Fajon: no guarantees for visa liberalization in 2015 (Radio Dukagjini)

Member of European Parliament, Tanja Fajon, in an interview for Radio Dukagjini stated that it cannot be guaranteed that in 2015 Kosovars will travel without visas in the EU countries. According to her, Kosovo, first has to fulfill the conditions set by the European mechanisms. Asked about the special court, Fajon thinks that this court should be seen as a way of delivering justice in Kosovo. “The Parliament of Kosovo must approve as soon as possible the legislation and constitutional amendments required for establishing the special court," said Fajon.
