The Central Election Commission (CEC) has decertified 86 candidates from running in October’s local elections, all of whom have been convicted by the courts for criminal offences. Some of the members of the CEC from political parties opposed the decision saying it discriminates candidates by not categorizing the seriousness of the offense they were convicted for.
