RTK2 reports that for more than a week, the Public Utility Company “Komunalac”, which operates within the temporary organ of the Municipal Assembly of Pristina (Serbian system), does not collect garbage from Gračanica.

RTK2 says that the Kosovo Inspection for environmental protection has banned the operation of the utility company ”Komunalac”, due to the lack of documentation for work and environmental threats. This public utility company used to operate in Gračanica and it was under the Serbian system.

For a week now, no one provides communal services to the population on the territory of the municipality of Gračanica, reports RTK2.

“For more than ten days, they are not coming to collect garbage. We have no place to throw, we collect in the yard, dogs scatter the garbage, and it’s a catastrophe.”

“It may come to infections, we need to solve this as soon as possible, because we have a big problem,” the locals of Gračanica point out.

“This is an illegal company that works without any documents. This company, it dumps garbage into an illegal landfill, and we, as an inspectorate, regularly receive complaints from residents who live in the vicinity of the landfill. We prohibited their work and reported to the court, they will continue to act by the law,” said Mustafa Hyseni, Director of Environmental Inspection.

Interim body of Pristina did not want to comment this problem.

In a telephone conversation, RTK2 was told that this problem will be resolved, but it was not specified when. The municipality of Gračanica says that this problem is being solved, since the Government of Kosovo has approved the establishment of a utility company that will operate within this municipality.

From the municipality of Gračanica, the director of public services, Vladica Trajković, says that now there is pressure to find a company that will directly refer the garbage to a legal landfill. He says that a new utility company is expected to be formed within the municipality, and pressure is also being put on the Pashtrimi utility company, which also functions in this municipality to improve their services.

The Public Utility Company confirmed to RTK2 in a non-formal interview that this company was banned from work, but they stated that, according to the verbal approval of the Municipality of Gračanica, garbage has so far been deposited in a illegal landfill formed at Padalište area in Gračanica itself.
