Director of the Advocacy Centre for Democratic Culture (ACDC) Dusan Radakovic told Radio kontakt plus that the elections in northern Kosovo, which were called by Kosovo President Hashim Thaci for May 19, are a test (taking the pulse) of the Serbian community and opined that Serbs should not boycott them.

He noted the upcoming elections are a test to what extent the Serbian voters could influence the political structure and political power in the north and beyond, in other parts of Kosovo.

Radakovic emphasized that, nevertheless, “this is the worst moment for Serbs to hold elections in Kosovo,” adding “it may very well happen that elections will also be held in June in Serbia, and that the elections in the north of Kosovo will come at the time of the boycott of the institutions”.

“We don’t have the mayors, we have a 100% tariff on Serbian goods, we have a problem with the army, a problem with Trepca, a problem related to war crime trials in absentia, etc. There are many problems, and all of that Serbs should leave aside, and to think about the election campaign. I think there will certainly be more candidates than the last time, but I also think that Serbs should participate in these elections that have been announced”, Radaković said.

“If the Serbs do not participate, we will have the Albanian mayor, and definitely the boycott won’t be suitable for the Serbian community”, Radaković concluded.
