Strpce residents and residents of Donja Bitinja village in the Strpce municipality protest today in front of the municipal building against reconstruction of mini-hydro power plants on the rivers Lepenac, Bolovanka i Kaludjerka, Radio kontakt plus reports.
Residents are requesting municipality to cancel decisions for constructing the mini-hydro power plants.
Donja Bitinja is a village whose residents also protest construction of mini-hydro power plant. Village representative Agron Rushiti stated earlier there was no public discussion before reconstruction of power plant. He warned people would remain without potable water due to hydro power plant.
Strpce residents gathered again today at the place called Obereke where works on reconstructing the hydro power plant resumed on Saturday despite of months-long protests by residents, even clashes with the police. They later joined the protest taking place in the front of the municipality.
According to the report on impact on the living environment “Matkos Group” company from Pristina prepared, and which is constructing power plants both at Lepenac river and Obereke place, it was planned to build five mini-hydro power plants on the Lepenac river, power-plant Sara, power plant Brezovica, power plant Vica, power plant Brod and power plant Strpce, Radio kontakt plus reported.
