Kosovo’s outgoing Minister of Justice, Abelard Tahiri, met today in Pristina with Ragmi Mustafa, chairman of the National Council of Albanians in Presevo Valley, several news websites report. Tahiri said after the meeting that Kosovo needs to have a genuine and systematic agenda to address the needs of the Albanian community in Presevo Valley. “Because of its ethnic composition, Presevo Valley remains one of the most discriminated regions in South-East Europe, due to Serbia’s disintegrating policy and this cannot be tolerated for a country that aspires to join the European Union … Presevo Valley cannot remain a valley of disappointment and unpopulated. It needs our support and international awareness about the constant limitations by the Serbian regime. The Valley needs investments and education. It is our duty to stimulate economic and social development for this Albanian-inhabited region and we need to continue to foster our cultural ties. The Republic of Kosovo aspires to have healthy relations with neighboring countries and the treatment of Albanian communities in these countries is a crucial chapter that will determine these relations”.
