“Kosovo continues to have political disagreements with Serbia, but business and trade relations are doing well, especially for our neighbors. Serbia is the biggest exporter in Kosovo’s market, according to the latest report of the Kosovo Statistics Agency. Based on foreign trade data, Serbia is the biggest importer with 11 percent, followed by Germany with 10.7 percent, Italy 8.8 percent, Greece 8.4 percent, Turkey 7.6 percent and China 6.8 percent. Our country maintains the negative tradition of an alarming trade deficit which is evidence of crisis in local production and the inability of businesses to grow in such a difficult environment. The total amount of import in February 2013 was €156.3 million whereas export amounted only to 22.6 million … These figures should cause concern among Kosovo institutions. More serious engagements by the government, assembly, municipalities, courts, prosecution and independent public agencies would result in better conditions for doing business … The government’s economic policies are not stimulating the growth of local manufacturers. The latter face high bank rates, insufficient rule of law and uncertain investments,” notes the front-page editorial of the paper.
