All those who have forced elections in Kosovo were supposed to provide security to citizens, assessed Vienna-based Die Presse.

Die Presse praised all Serbs in northern Kosovo who turn out on elections on Sunday and stressed that they knew that they are taking a huge personal risk, but believed that their security will be taken care of by those in Europe who wanted elections.

Die Presse writes that a handful of thugs were sufficient in order that situation escalates completely out of control and adds that Serbian forces in Serbia could prevent some of those extremists and underlines that KFOR and others could count, that is, they had to be aware that it will come to violence.

“Instead of acting against the obstructionists they spent to much time in observing situation, and ordinary euphemism for it is ‘de-escalation’. It is not wondering that those thugs were encouraged and went on to test security forces with an unpleasant outcome,” writes the paper.

Die Presse ironically carried OSCE statements that everything was all right until 17:00, posing a question what’s worse – “that it is stupidity or the we believe that OSCE believes in such a thing”
