Petrovic: Northern municipalities to work in line with Kosovo legislation (RTK1)

Minister of Local Government Administration (MLGA) Slobodan Petrovic said he was optimistic that four northern mayors also will take oath and govern the municipalities based on legislation of the Republic of Kosovo. Petrovic announced that in case those municipalities will not respect legislation, the same measures as in Gracanica/Graçanicë case will be taken.

According to Minister Petrovic, MLGA in cooperation with municipalities implemented 68 projects, estimated to over EUR 4 million. 

Ahmeti requests interpretation regarding use of state symbols (Most monitored broadcasters, TV21)

The Prishtinë/Pristina mayor Shpend Ahmeti sent a letter to the Minister of Local Government Administration Slobodan Petrovic, and informed him that Prishtinë/Pristina Municipality has not made any changes in its position with regard to state symbols. At the same time, Ahmeti requested legal interpretation of the use of state symbols and photos of public figures at public buildings.

Ahmeti suggested Minister Petrovic to submit responses on this issue to all municipalities, so that law implementation can be equal in the entire Kosovo territory.

Cliff: Reserved seats should remain for one more mandate (RTK2) 

Reserved seats for minority communities at the Assembly of Kosovo should remain for at least one more mandate, the British Ambassador in Kosovo Ian Cliff considers.

In an interview with Serbian edition of Radio Kosova Ambassador Cliff said that reserved seats are needed for further integration of Serbs from northern Kosovo.

Number of cases addressed to Ombudsperson doubled (Klan Kosova, KTV)

During 2013, 2031 citizens requested help from the Ombudsperson’s Institution. This was stated at the end of the year conference held by this Institution, where the statistics of cases reported from 01 January until 25 December 2013 were presented.

Kosovo Ombudsperson Sami Kurteshi said that the number of cases doubled compared to earlier years. He thinks that one of the main factors for doubling of complaints is increase of citizens’ courage.

Eighty-eight per cent of cases were reported by Albanians, 7% were Serbs, 1% Turks, 1% Roma, 1% Bosniaks, 1% Ashkali and 1% others. 

Lumezi: Prosecution should complete corruption cases by June 2014 (Klan Kosova, RTK1)

One of the challenges that await Kosovo prosecutorial system in 2014 is addressing corruption and organised crime cases. At least, this is what the Appellate Prosecutor Aleksander Lumezi stated at the end-year press conference.

According to Lumezi, June 2014 has been set as the deadline for prosecutors to complete all corruption related cases.
