Kosovo continues to be ranked as a partially free country by the US-based organization, Freedom House. In the newest report on freedoms in the world, 2013 is said to have been characterized by intensified repression in Eurasia and Middle East and that the freedom situation has declined.

In the category of political rights, Kosovo has scored 5, while in that of civil freedoms, 4. Compared to last year’s report, Kosovo received the same assessment. 1 is the highest level of freedom and 7 the lowest.

Albania in the report is also classified as “partially free” with score 3 on political rights and 3 for civil freedoms.

As far as other Balkan countries are concerned, “partially free” category was also attributed to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia. Free countries include Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro. Slovenia has scored the best result with 1 for both political rights and civil freedoms.
