The authorities in Priština on Friday denied reports in the local media that Myanmar had recognized Kosovo.

Asked by the koha.net website, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Priština said they received no “official recognition note” from that country.

The websites that earlier in the day carried this “news” have now apologized to their readers.

The Albanian language media previously said that the Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs was notified of Myanmar’s recognition.

They quoted the alleged note as saying that a Kosovo deputy PM who traveled to the Asian country in December “presented convincing arguments why Kosovo should be independent.”

The reports also said that with this, “106 countries had recognized Kosovo.”

Kosovo’s ethnic Albanians unilaterally declared independence in early 2008, but Serbia rejected this proclamation
