Those who do not allow the north of Mitrovica to stabilize benefit from the arrest of Oliver Ivanovic, assess Rada Trajkovic, doctor and politician from Gracanica.

Rada Trajkovic to Blic says that it is very strange that in a month, “Northern Mitrovica lost three mayors, one killed, one arrested, one withdrew, and the reasons for their disappearance are outside of the territory and contrary to the interests of people who live there.”

Oliver Ivanovic as a serious candidate for mayor of north Mitrovica was arrested two days before the deadline for submission of nominations for elections for mayor scheduled for 23 February. His lawyer, Nebojsa Vlajić managed only yesterday morning to get justification for Ivanovic’s custody and file a complaint.

– Prosecutor refuses to show the case we do not know anything about evidences and alleged new witnesses. These are two offenses, one from the war in 1999 and the second from February 2000 in northern Mitrovica. In the first four people were killed, and in second another ten people. We believe that the witnesses upon whom the prosecutor acts are absolutely false and we hope that the state of Serbia and its bodies will help in solving it. It’s hard to convince us that the arrest was not politically motivated. What the witnesses and the prosecutor were waiting for 15 years? – said Vlajic yesterday to Blic.

According to him, the prosecutor justified request for detention with fear that Ivanovic might escape or interfere with witnesses.

The Belgrade War Crimes Prosecutor yesterday did not want to go out in public with information on this case, and the Department of Justice, which has pledged to seek an explanation from Pristina. Both cases that Oliver Ivanovic is charged with were interrogated by UNMIK 12 years ago and rejected.
