Over 40.000 names in voter list not updated

(TV21)

Dead people on voter lists are one of the issues that put burden on electoral process which is still not finding a final solution.  This is considered concerning, because it allows possibility of abuse during the election process.

“The voter list issue is not an activity that should be included in the electoral reform. The voter list issue is an important component that should be cleaned,” former CEO of Central Elections Commission (CEC) Adnan Merovci said.

The Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI) gives even more alarming figures of people that do not exist at all, or they did not live in Kosovo, but they are still registered in voter lists.

“There are over 200.000 people that do not vote for three-four election rounds and they are still there. In fact, they have the right to vote, but a way to close this vacuum that might be used for manipulations should be found,” said Jetmir Bakija of KDI. The Ministry of interior officials justify themselves by saying that it is citizens that are not reporting their dead family members.

On the other hand, LDK representative at the CEC Florian Dushi said that there is no coordination about this matter.

Police operation politicised by Strpce/Shtërpcë Municipal Assembly

(RTK2, KTV)

Tuesday’s police operation in Strpce/Shtërpcë has been politicised by the Municipal Assembly. Five municipal councillors of SLS in power and six of Srpska civic initiative in opposition in an extraordinary meeting adopted a statement judging and condemning the Kosovo Police (KP) operation, which on Tuesday arrested five Serbs, four of them being KP members.

The four Albanian municipal councillors voted against the statement. They said that this was an illegal procedure which exceeds authorisations of the Municipal Assembly.

The Strpce/Shtërpcë mayor Bratislav Nikolic also reacted against politicising of the police operation and against the language used by some municipal councillors.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Serbs and secondary school students protested in front of the municipality building in Strpce/Shtërpcë against recent arrests. Protesters held up slogans against the Kosovo Police that read ‘We want no ROSU at Syrinika Gorge’, ‘who’s next’, ‘Schools are backing you’, ‘Freedom to arrested persons’ etc.

Serb protesters block Jarinje gate

(RTK2, Klan Kosova)

Around 100 Serbs blocked Kosovo-Serbia border crossing in Jarinje on Wednesday evening. The protest started because leader of the Serbian Democratic Party Vojislav Kostunica and his escort was banned to enter Kosovo territory.

Kostunica had planned to hold electoral rally in north Mitrovica/Mitrovicë. Initially Kostunica said he would not leave the border crossing until his entry to Kosovo is allowed, but he left after it was said that his entry to the Kosovo territory was ordered by the Kosovo Interior Minister Bajram Rexhepi.

Trajkovic: Kosovo’s and Albania’s armies to destabilise region

(TV21)

Kosovo Assembly member Rada Trajkovic says that two Albanian armies – Kosovo’s and Albania’s armies – will be factors of destabilisation in the region.

Haradinaj signs petition to bring down Government

(All monitored broadcasters, KTV)

The AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj was the first one to sign the petition initiated by his party for bringing down Government. Haradinaj said that AAK has not given up the motion to bring down the Government, and the petition aims to put some kind of pressure on MPs.

On the other hand, Vetëvendosje Movement continues referring to the AAK initiatives as games. The Movement representatives believe that the AAK’s initiative is not serious and dishonest. They still doubt about a possible agreement between AAK and Prime Minister Thaçi.
