The outgoing Prime Minister of Serbia, Ivica Dačić, said yesterday in Jagodina that by recognizing Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence, the international community opened Pandora’s box and that it remains questionable if and how it will ever be closed.

“I think that comparing the crisis in Crimea to Kosovo, which was made recently to justify Kosovo’s independence, is a mistake and a way to justify the international community’s policy toward Serbia,” said Dačić. He assessed that the international community has been unjust to Serbia and, ‘it shouldn’t now seek a way to justify it and not recognize the same right to Russia’.

“We certainly will not cause damage to our national and state interests, and those are principles of the territorial integrity and sovereignty, along with our relations with Russia,” said Dačić in Jagoina, where he attended the opening of the Aunde company branch for the production of automobile seats.

He reminded that Serbia’s priority on its way toward the European Union is strengthening relations with traditional friends, who are also “helping us in protecting our national and state interests”.

“In that sense, our stance toward the crisis in Ukraine will be expressed in those two manners, which is continuing toward the EU and the obligation of harmonizing with EU stances when it comes to joint foreign policy, but , on the other hand, Serbia can’t jeopardize its national and state interests, hence it has to continue to develop friendly relations with the states which support Serbia with regards to the Kosovo issue,” said Dačić.
