“Slovakia does not intend to change its position on the independence of Kosovo. Our approach is based on the declaration of the Slovakian Parliament of March 2007 regarding the solution of the status of the Serbian province of Kosovo,” stated the Spokesperson of Slovakia’s Foreign Ministry, Boris Gandal.
Commenting the statements of Kosovo’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Petrit Selimi, that Slovakia could recognize Kosovo within a few weeks, Gandel stated that his country is not in a competition to recognize the independence of Kosovo before all the EU countries do so. “We do not want to participate in a competition towards recognition, before the five EU countries decide to do so,” stated Gandel He added however that Slovakia supports Kosovo’s European perspective.
“We do not want to create a black hole in Balkans and our pragmatic approach remains. We continue to support the European perspective of the entire Western Balkans, including Kosovo,” concluded Gandel.
