Jevtić on return and cooperation with the Mayor of South Mitrovica (RTV Puls)

Return of Serbs to village Svinjare and problems surrounding construction of houses in suburb Brđani in North Mitrovica were main topics at the meeting which took place yesterday between the Minister for Return and Communities Dalibor Jevtić and Mayor of South Mitrovcia Agim Bahtiri.

Bahtiri expressed readiness to cooperate in the process of return of Serbs to South Mitrovica and village Svinjare. He also informed Jevtić that project of reconstruction of the orthodox graveyard in South Mitrovica is ready, along with the project for renovation of the church which is located within the graveyard.

Construction of houses in suburb Brđane in North Mitrovica was the principal topic which lead Minister Jevtić to initiate meeting aiming are settling that issue in the interest of both municipalities in Mitrovica and citizens. Jevtić proposed the creation of a working group composed by representatives of the South and North Mitrovica, representatives of the receiving and returning communities, and representatives of the Ministry for Communities and Return and international community aiming at achieving transparency in this process and preventing any sort of problems.

Mayor Bahtiri agreed with the proposal in principal, and they both agreed to organize a meeting with the Mayor of North Mitrovica Goran Rakić aiming at reaching final agreement with regards to this issue.

“I am happy that I can say that agreement is reached in principal, that issue of Brđani should be resolved in a transparent way through participation off all relevant stakeholders. This is the way how problems should be resolved and I believe that we’ll succeed in this process in order that local population in Brđani are not intimidated in any way, whereas they would work together with representatives of the returning community and two local self-governments in settling this issue. I greet the initiative of Mayor Bahtiri on return of Serbs to village Svinjare and Ministry will assist in order that people can return to their homes,” said Jevtić following the meeting with Bahtiri.
