BELGRADE – The government of future Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic must be a real team where everyone should have the same goals and work towards them, European Parliament member Doris Pack has said, expressing hope that Serbia will speed up reforms.

With the absolute majority it now has, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) will find it easier to implement the desired and required reforms, Pack told the Danas daily.

Asked whether she expects the SNS to form the new government with the Socialist Party of Serbia, Pack declined to give a direct answer, but said that goals can always be achieved more quickly and in a more authentic manner when there is no need for negotiations and compromise.

Fighting corruption and strengthening the judiciary will establish a climate of trust for investors, which will mean new jobs, added Pack, an official of the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU).

All agreements reached so far in the Brussels dialogue with Pristina must be implemented, and the negotiations must include all existing problems and efforts to solve them, she said.

Pack believes that there is no contradiction between Serbia’s wish to join the EU, which she said is an explicit goal of Serbia and the Serbian people, and its wish to maintain good relations with Russia.

However, if a friend is violating international rules, a friend of his should criticise him and warn him, she said.

The EU is treating Russia in exactly the same way, Pack said.
