Mayor of North Kosovska Mitrovica, Goran Rakic accused the Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Edita Tahiri that she prevents the replacement of councilors’ mandates in the municipality, although the Ministry of Local Government gave approval for it.

The statement reads that Rakic called Edita Tahiri to stop interfering with the replacement of councilors’ mandates, because she will be responsible for possible and adverse events.

Rakic asked to respect the legal procedure according to which the mandates should be replaced, indicating that any other decision leads to the destabilization of the situation in northern Kosovo and Metohija. On the other side it shows that there is not a minimum of political will to allow the normal and smooth functioning of the institutions. “The pressure which Edita Tahiri openly and shamelessly made to the Central Election Commission upset the Serbian community in the north, which is already exposed to daily threats. That can lead to unintended consequences,” said Rakic.
