Why should LDK be voted? (Koha Ditore)

Halil Matoshi today writes of reasons why the 8 June vote should go to the Democratic League of Kosovo. He says that LDK governance would not be revolutionary or miraculous but would be a significant and permanent change in the good of the citizens.

Matoshi says that the 7 percent economic growth rate that has been envisaged by the LDK in its election programme is well-founded and it can create 180,000 new jobs over a period of four years. LDK, despite allegations of nepotism, has never been accused of restricting civil rights and especially the freedom of expression and press which has not been the case with the governance of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK).

Furthermore, while the PDK during its mandate has exercised political influence over the judiciary in Kosovo, the LDK leadership has demonstrated solid commitment that it will use the government to free the judiciary from any political interference. With regards to the “flirting” with political Islam, Matoshi notes that Thaci’s PDK is increasingly engaging in the activity whereas LDK, though not with enough determination, has stayed out of parties propagating political Islam.

Another reason why, in Matoshi’s view, LDK should win this year’s election is that the party never persecuted its political opponents and in fact bore the brunt of political clashes in the fight for power. Tens of LDK activists were killed in yet mysterious circumstances only because they were determined to oppose the so-called war wing that was being established by the PDK.

The vote for LDK would be the lesser evil, continues Matoshi, because Kosovo will not be damaged by its rule and corruption may be brought under control. LDK leader Isa Mustafa has shown he has the power to unify the “sleeping” electorate and topped with the fact that PDK’s electorate has been slashed by the Initiative for Kosovo, LDK can be expected to win upcoming general elections, concludes Matoshi.
