For the first time, Kosovo took part in a conference that took place in UNESCO. Deputy Foreign Minister, Petrit Selimi, was one of the panelists along with the UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, former President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, former Foreign Minister of Turkey, Yasar Yakis, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Parliamentary Commission of Lithuania, Emanuelis Zingeris, and other leaders in a conference on cultural heritage and education.
The conference was titled “UN and the Levant Peace Initiative” and was based on the UN resolutions and for the first time, incorporated religious and parliamentary leaders, academics in a joint effort to find peacemaking formulas for the Persian Gulf.
Selimi was invited as one of the founders of InterfaithKosova, an initiative that promoted interfaith dialogue as a public diplomacy tool. In his address, Selimi highlighted the Kosovar experience as a valid example for promoting dialogue and inclusion of religious communities in an active civic dialogue and called on the ambassadors present at the conference to involve Kosovo more on UNESCO-s work until its full membership in the organization.
