Anyone who has blood on his hands, and there is evidence that he committed a crime should be found on the dock before the future tribunal for crimes of the KLA in Kosovo since 1998 until 2000, says Serbian Deputy War Crimes Prosecutor Bruno Vekarić.
“I expect that the court will be formed at the beginning of 2015. The indicator is the adoption of the resolution of Kosovo’s parliament that has agreed to the establishment of the Court. The resolution was passed under extreme international pressure, which shows that the international community, notably the Europe and America, seek the way to provide the judicial response to the question of victims’ families,” said Vekaric in an interview with Vesti.
He said he had information from international sources that the tribunal will be formed in a third country, probably in The Hague or in Brussels, where the international trial chambers will judge by the domicile right,” he said.
Vekarić, noting that the Williamson’s team conducted investigation in nine countries, said that he expects enough material to be collected to start the process.
The issue of witness protection, says Vekarić, is the most sensitive, noting that it is also emphasized in the report by Dick Marty and Jean Charles Gardetto, but in the statements of witnesses that were available to them.
“In the trial of Ramush Haradinaj a lot of people were killed who could testify against him. In the Limaj (Fatmir) trial witness is dead, and three times tried to kill a witness who is under our care. This problem is now resolved and at the level of Williamson’s team, and in our system of protection, so I think that adequate conditions are provided for the undisturbed testimony and which I think is crucial for the establishment of the tribunal,” said Vekarić.
At the ascertainment that in the UNMIK investigation are mentioned Haradinaj brothers as the command responsible, and Naim Maloku, Xhavid Elshani, while Dick Marty mentions Hashim Thaci, Vekarić explained that in the UNMIK report on organized crime clearly are mentioned the suspects of organ trafficking as well as the place where the organs were sold.
Unfortunately, the results of this investigation are suppressed, and any further action was absent, Vekaric said, adding that it shows a lot on UNMIK’s inability to cope with war crimes and organized crime in Kosovo.
“I expect that anyone who has blood on his hands, and there is evidence that he did it will be found at the dock before the future tribunal. It’s called justice, everything else is politicizing and we do not know how to do it and we will not participate in it. We will continue to fight for the truth for the victims and their families and persistently ‘bother’ all those who want to cover up the investigation, “he says.
Asked why it is possible that, although in conflict areas often is mentioned organ trade, no one stood in the way, Vekarić explained that this is because the roads of crime are always on the verge of conflict areas, where there is no law and order.
“Just the experience of the conflict in the former Yugoslavia of war crimes carried out in parallel and offenses related to organized crime proves that it is possible. Arms trafficking, looting of property, often and of their own people, murder, human trafficking, narcotics, and organ trade are lucrative jobs that the dogs of war in the rush for profits successfully performed all over the world, but, unfortunately, and in the Balkans, ” Vekarić.
