Despite all the commotion that has accompanied political and social spectrum, Kosovo has many things to be proud of, writes KTV editor-in-chief, Adriatik Kelmendi. “As a political spectrum and as a people we have shown with dignity that we know how to make democracy. We know how to hold good elections, we know how to accept results, we know how to make agreements, we know how to respect decisions of independent institutions regardless of whether they are up to our liking or not”, writes Kelmendi.
The readiness of the four political parties – Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Alliance for Future of Kosovo (AAK), Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) and Vetevendosje – to come together and discuss ways of cooperation, despite very often having antagonistic views, shows political maturity. “Furthermore, this union came without any international interference which we have been used to seeing in the last fifteen years”. At the same time, Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) also displayed dignified stance as despite the fact that it has come out as the first in elections, saw that this is not enough to form a new government but did not curse or threaten anyone, adds Kelmendi.
Kelmendi doesn’t believe that this maturity will be compromised on Thursday during the constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly but there is a need for new MPs from all parties to show some vision. It is completely irrelevant where each political grouping will sit in the Assembly but what matters is what the actions and commitments of MPs will be. “I have faith that elected MPs will know once again what weight their decisions will bear and that they will put the interest of Kosovo before personal one”, writes Kelmendi.
