Mayor of Mitrovica/Mitrovica north Goran Rakic has called on the international community to invest maximum efforts into dealing with security issues and providing a safe environment for all the people in Kosovo.

His appeal came after an unexploded hand grenade was found and cleared by the police in Mitrovica/Mitrovicë north on Saturday.

According to him, two cars were set on fire in Filip Visnjic Street on Saturday, and that happened just two days after another similar incident.

“It is hard to believe that this is not a string of planned incidents intended to cause disorder and panic among the Serb population in Mitrovica/Mitrovicë north and northern Kosovo,” Rakic told Serbian media.

Different from Rakic, on the day that these cars were set on fire, Kosovo Police said that this incident was not related to an interethnic conflict, but rather with a dispute between some Serbs in the north.

Jaksic said that the management of the municipality of Zubin Potok is ready to cooperate and work for the benefit of its citizens, and if there is a failure in implementing the Brussels Agreement, EULEX will carry all the responsibilities for it.

President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga reiterated that Kosovo is not alone in the fight against radicalism.

For us it is important that as institutions we act against individuals and groups that present a threat to our national security, President Jahjaga said in an interview with Radio Free Europe.

She added that this radicalism does not threaten only Kosovo, but it goes beyond Kosovo’s internal context.

“For us it is important that as institutions we act against individuals and groups that present a threat to our national security, and as a society we distance ourselves from criminal and extremist acts that have nothing in common with the values and ideals on which we are building our state,” Jahjaga said.

Former Assembly Speaker Jakup Krasniqi also spoke about the threat that Kosovo is exposed to by the extremists.

He called on everyone to be reserved towards any form of cooperation with extremists, who put a dark shadow over the nation and its future.

Krasniqi considers that Kosovo does not need religious or state leaders that with extreme servility declare themselves pro-western, while in fact, whenever they have a chance they act like aggressive fundamentalists and non-tolerant towards anyone that does not think as they do.
