UNMIK handover ceremonies continue (UNMIK)

As part of a series of donations of equipment to regions across Kosovo, UNMIK Deputy SRSG Robert Sorenson visited the municipality of Novobërdë/Novo Brdo on 11 December, where he met with Mayor Bajrush Ymeri to present the items in a handover ceremony.

Novobërdë/Novo Brdo

As part of a series of donations of equipment to regions across Kosovo, UNMIK Deputy SRSG Robert Sorenson visited the municipality of Novobërdë/Novo Brdo on 11 December, where he met with Mayor Bajrush Ymeri to present the items in a handover ceremony.

“It’s really a pleasure for us to give this donation of equipment to this municipality,” said Mr. Sorenson, “The participation of people within their community and the leadership are essential for moving things forward; I hope this donation that we’re able to make today is helpful in your effort in this regard.”

Mayor Ymeri warmly welcomed the contribution and spoke about the favourable working relations he personally experienced with UNMIK over the years. “We continued our cooperation with UNMIK since June 2008 and these exchanges have led to this meeting today,” exclaimed the mayor.

Mr. Ymeri praised UNMIK for contributing to the peaceful environment in Novobërdë/Novo Brdo. “I’m quite pleased to see that you continue to provide assistance to municipalities in need. We highly appreciate this,” concluded Mayor Ymeri.

Kamenicë/Kamenica 

On 11 December In Kamenicë/Kamenica, UNMIK Deputy SRSG Robert Sorenson presented a vehicle and other items to Mayor Shaip Surdulli during a special handover ceremony.

“We are all aware of the challenges particularly these days of economic hardship. So, in this regard, I am pleased we are able to offer some assistance,” said DSRSG Sorenson.

“The community is made up of diverse groups and its diversity gives it a great deal of strength in the long run. I think these donations will be particularly helpful to the work for the returns office,” Mr. Sorenson added.

Mayor Surdulli expressed his great appreciation during the handover ceremony. “Such donations are quite rare and I want to thank you for selecting our municipality. We highly appreciate your generosity towards Kamenica.”

In the coming weeks, UNMIK will visit 32 municipalities and donate over 300 items, such as vehicles and IT equipment.
