The Director of the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Djuric called authorities in charge for the rule of law in Kosovo to be responsible and open to families of those who are exposed to court proceedings under charges for being involved in political activities.
Yesterday in Zubin Potok, Djuric met with representatives of families of arrested Serbs and assessed that it is “important that there is no pressure on persons who have expressed their political stance in the region of Zubin Potok”.
He went on to say that it is very important that international organizations, which have received the mandate to care about the rule of law, are not seen by the people as the ones who are not providing the rule of law and, also, presenting it in the manner which is seen by the people as a leverage against them.
Djuric stressed that “there can’t be normal situation in northern Kosovo and Metohija with regard to rule of law, implementation of laws and general security of citizens and property, unless the courts and prosecutor’s office with Serb majority are set in line with the Brussels Agreement”.
“There can’t be replacement for the judicial institutions which are composed by our people here, the ones who have spent decades in judiciary, who are familiar with problems in northern Kosovo and Metohija,” Djuric said.
He said that state will insist that people who live in northern Kosovo are not persecuted and exposed to political pressure.
“I think that only with understanding and sensitivity toward the situation which exists in northern Kosovo and Metohija, on the side of those who are in charge for the rule of law, we can come to situation where we don’t have this sort of tensions and feelings that prevail amongst our compatriots, who live in northern Kosovo and Metohija, that they are faced with injustice,” Djuric said.
