Braathu: Elections might happen sooner than we think

(All monitored broadcasters, KTV)

At a time when political parties have blocked the institutional life, claiming that they are the ones that have the right to establish institutions, talks about potential elections have started to spread.

Indirectly, the Norwegian Ambassador to Kosovo Jan Braathu said that elections might happen sooner that we think; however, their preparation should be a concern.

“Elections in June were good, but the effort for their improvement should continue,” Ambassador Braathu said.

Meanwhile, chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Valdete Daka hopes that future elections will happen as stipulated by law and Constitution, and not too soon.

In the roundtable organized by Democracy in Action (DiA) was said that civil servants and public resources were used in last elections.

On the other hand, political party representatives addressed criticism against the ruling party (PDK), saying that it bought votes.

In his Facebook account, the former Assembly Speaker Jakup Krasniqi said that the option of elections is being mentioned to intimidate MPs. He believes that the country has no reason to enter new elections.

The last general elections held on June 8 continue to be qualified as the best elections held in Kosovo since the end of the war. In a roundtable where the report on observations of elections titled “Extraordinary elections with ordinary challenges”, were presented some of the findings of the observation that DiA did over this electoral process.

Acting USAID Kosovo Mission Director, Christopher Edwards, said that Kosovars spoke with their vote, which had impact.

“Kosovo has made much progress in improving its electoral process over the last years. A great improvement was particularly noted in the general elections, and Kosovo citizens should be commended for this. Citizens spoke and their vote had impact,”   Edwards said.

According to Edwards, Kosovo has demonstrated that it is able to organize a fair electoral process.

Presenter of the report, Jetmir Bakija, said that during the last observation of the election campaign they noted two concerning issues, that is, usage of civil servants in campaign and public resources.

Observation report of the 2014 general elections was supported by the Norwegian Embassy in Kosovo and USAID.

Resignation of the American judge Robert Carolan from the Constitutional Court is also being seen as a good opportunity for LAN bloc. While the Court is now without a quorum for political cases, legal expert Fisnik Korenica says that no one can dispute election of an Assembly Speaker by the bloc, in case PDK will fail to do so.

Political analyst Artan Muhaxhiri considers that resignation of the American judge has aggravated the situation further. He said that this blockage of the Court will also discomfit PDK.

Jablanovic: Vetëvendosje’s approach toward talks unacceptable

(Most monitored broadcasters, TV21)

Srpska List still does not know which coalition it will join. The List chairperson Aleksandar Jablanovic said that his political entity will decide on Wednesday whether it will support PDK or the LAN-Vetëvendosje coalition.

In a statement for Radio Free Europe Jablanovic reiterated Srpska List reservations regarding the Bloc’s agreement on principles, because, as he said, Serbs do not want to enable anybody to review Brussels Agreement.

According to him, there is no room for negotiations about this matter, taking into account the time and efforts that were required to achieve the 19 April Agreement.
