Jahjaga seeks US assistance for women victims of rape (Koha)

President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, met the US Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, Catherine Russell, with whom she discussed the initiatives for empowerment of women in Kosovo. Jahjaga stressed that Kosovo has taken on a proactive approach to increase participation of women in public life and decision-making, including their representation at the Kosovo Assembly. President Jahjaga informed Ambassador Russell with the institutional efforts in Kosovo to provide assistance for reintegration and rehabilitation of survivors of sexual violence during the war, pointing out the work of the National Council on Survivors of Sexual Violence during the War, as a mechanism which aims the recognition of the legal status for this category and access to services and economic empowerment of women touched by this form of torture. Ambassador Russell hailed the progress Kosovo has made in the gender equality aspect and expressed readiness to assist Kosovo in the forthcoming processes.
