No agreement to end deadlock (Epoka e Re)
The contradicting positions of the political parties even a day before the constitutive session of the Assembly are signals that the political stalemate will not be resolved this Thursday. Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) MP Flora Brovina, who chairs the constitutive session, said that if President Atifete Jahjaga needs additional discussions with the leaders of the parliamentary parties, “then with her insistence we could postpone the session”. Arber Vllahiu, senior adviser to the President, announced new meetings between the President and the political leaders.
Opposition insists on debate, Brovina objects (Koha Ditore)
The post-election coalition and Vetevendosje are viewing the upcoming Assembly session as an opportunity not only for proposing a candidate for speaker but also for opening a debate on the issue. However, Flora Brovina, the chair of the session, who comes from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), has opposed the idea saying that the Assembly’s working rules do not allow for a debate during the constitutive session. “The President is the one that facilitates a debate”, said Brovina.
Solution only through discussion in Assembly (Lajm)
The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, after yesterday’s meeting of the coalition bloc, said that the main topic of discussion was the 2 October session. “We have our action plan; the first part is already known, while you will see the second part on 2 October. What I can say for this part is that a discussion should be allowed in the session. Only that way can a solution be found”, said Haradinaj.
Everyone against a comprehensive government (Zeri)
Parties of the post-election bloc have rejected the possibility of joining a comprehensive government with the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK). The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and candidate for prime minister, Ramush Haradinaj, said there is no need to create a comprehensive government. “We have an agreement for a broad-based government as we have a parliamentary majority, but without the PDK”, said Haradinaj. At the same time, Ismet Beqiri from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) said the media reports suggesting the creation of a comprehensive government are just speculation. Vetevendosje officials also believe there is no need for a comprehensive government because the solution lies with the parties of the post-election coalition.
Serbian List defining future coalition (Tribuna)
Along with respecting the Constitutional Court’s decision on the election of the Assembly speaker and nomination of the candidate to form the new government, diplomatic sources said that the future government should also include the Serbian List and commit to the continuation and implementation of agreements with Belgrade and Euro-Atlantic integration processes.
Hahn announces intensification of dialogue (dailies)
Johannes Hahn, the designated European Commissioner for Regional Policy, has announced intensification of the political dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade. During a hearing in the European Parliament, Hahn said that he has seen readiness in Belgrade for continuation of the dialogue, and that this should happen as soon as Kosovo institutions are consolidated. Johannes Hahn called on the Balkan countries not to be discouraged by the fact that there will be no new round of EU enlargement in the next five years, as the integration process will continue.
Kosovo to impose sanctions on 46 Russian entities (Koha Ditore)
On the front page, the paper reports that there are a total of 46 Russian legal entities and government officials that will have sanctions imposed on them by Kosovo. This number includes multinational corporations, and financial and energy companies, as well as ministers or officials closely affiliated to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
