Opposition collects signatures demanding session continuation (Koha Ditore)
The paper reports on the front page that MPs from the four opposition parties – Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Vetevendosje, Alliance for Future of Kosovo (AAK) and Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) – announced that they will gather required signatures for calling an Assembly session next week. Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) held a meeting yesterday and called the opposition’s moves “immature” and damaging to the process of building new institutions. PDK claimed opposition MPs entered the Assembly premises unauthorized fully ignoring the facilitation process that is underway by the President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga. At the same time, chairperson of Assembly’s constitutive session, Flora Brovina, said that she does not know when she will call the next session.
Solution after Eid (Zeri)
President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, held another round of meetings with political leaders but no concrete results were achieved in overcoming the political stalemate. Jahjaga advised the leaders to come forward with proposals for resolving the crisis and then hold joint meetings. The idea was supported by leader of Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Hashim Thaci, but leaders of other political parties said their positions remain unchanged.
Hasani rejects possibility of Brovina’s dismissal (Koha Ditore)
In a presentation before the Vienna Diplomatic Academy, President of Kosovo’s Constitutional Court, Enver Hasani, rejected the possibility of the post-election coalition dismissing the chair of the Assembly session, Flora Brovina. “You don’t have to be a lawyer to know that you cannot dismiss someone by vote who was appointed automatically”, said Hasani recalling that Brovina happens to chair the session because she is the oldest MP.
Viets: Kosovo to form its own functional institutions (Koha Ditore)
In a front-page interview for the paper, German ambassador to Kosovo Angelika Viets suggested that all political parties should discuss together, under the facilitation of President Atifete Jahjaga, ways to find a solution for forming new institutions. “It is extremely important for the state of Kosovo at this stage to demonstrate political maturity and form its own functional institutions. This issue should stand above party or personal interests”, said Viets. Asked about the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue, the German diplomat stated that relations between Kosovo and Serbia have reached a new quality with the signing of agreement on normalization of relations in April of last year. However, she stressed that although there has been progress in the agreement’s implementation, “it has not been completed yet and remains a pressing matter”.
Hoxhaj confirms: Dialogue will continue (Tribuna)
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Enver Hoxhaj, said in a meeting with a group of German MPs that Government of Kosovo is committed to continue dialogue with Belgrade. He said Kosovo remains true to its international obligations for implementation of all agreements that are in the interest of normalization of relations with Serbia.
