BELGRADE – Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport said on Wednesday the EU expected full implementation of the Brussels agreement in the next year and a new momentum to the political talks between Belgrade and Pristina to come as soon as possible in order to achieve further progress in the normalisation of their relations.
Significant effort has been invested to achieve the goal defined by the European Council as comperhensive normalisation, he told a news conference after the European Commission had presented its report on Serbia’s progress.
There are expectations that the agreement should be implemented in full by April 19 next year, he stated.
There have been some very positive steps concerning the implementation, like the local elections, police integration, agreements on energy, integrated border management and freedom of movement, but there has been no decision on some other topics, like the judiciary, he stressed.
The EU wants to see the talks gain new momentum as soon as possible, he noted, adding that the most recent round of the talks was held on March 31.
The screening for Chapter 35 of the accession talks between Serbia and the EU was completed in January and the next step is to prepare European Commission report on the screening, he remarked.
The EU should have all the potential evidence regarding the implementation of the Brussels agreement, he said.
