It was all a farce (Gazeta Express)

Imer Mushkolaj in an opinion piece claims that statements by the leaders of the post-election coalition that if the chairperson of Assembly’s constitutive session, Flora Brovina, doesn’t call a session, they will elect the speaker on their own and then actually fail to do so, are nothing but “demagogical farce”. “We don’t need a farce in the light of another farce”, declares Mushkolaj.

He says that yesterday’s session of the Assembly brought nothing new and its outcome was predictable. The MPs had a chance to voice their frustrations from the speaker’s stand but were afraid to act in resolving the political crisis. In fact, all these months, the leaders of the so-called Bloc did nothing but talk, says Mushkolaj. They kept reiterating that they possess the necessary numbers to elect the speaker and that they have the right to do so, but on Thursday, they failed to deliver on their guarantees.

For months now, the Bloc’s leaders have focused their efforts on ‘empty words’ without trying to actually come up with a creative solution to the stalemate. Not to mention the total absence of an alternative government programme which the Bloc should have prepared a long time ago, Mushkolaj adds.

At the same time, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and its leader Hashim Thaci should have been present at the Assembly session yesterday and at least debate and propose a solution. At the end of the day, PDK, as a party that won most votes in elections, should show responsibility and not pretend not to see the ‘white elephant’ in the room. Instead, Thaci and PDK have chosen to keep the country in suspense through similar farcical actions. “It is final time for parties to behave responsibly and reach a compromise. Or, even head to elections. But they should not insult our intelligence”, concludes Mushkolaj.
