Serbian Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic has stated at the session of the Inter Polar Union in Geneva, during the debate on the gender equality, that Serbia is devoted to the improvement of the equality of sexes and curbing violence against women. She has said that attaining the equality is the best way to combat the violence.

Gojkovic has pointed that the biggest obstacles to accomplishing the full gender equality are stereotypes, prejudice and economic inequality. She added that the Serbian Assembly recognized the need to strengthen the gender equality so in the current composition of the parliament women made for more than one third of the MPs, and they were the heads of 28 parliamentary boards.
