Commenting on the significance of the Trilateral Commission, Dusan Proroković, executive director of the Centre for Strategic Alternatives said that globally there are at least fifty different theories related to the work of the Commission, but certainly it has a great importance in the world.
“It is uncertain how the upcoming meeting will affect the situation in Serbia. However, some parallels with the Bilderberg Group meeting in Athens, can be drawn. Shortly after the meeting in Athens the Greece bankrupted. Thus, there is possibility that this meeting will somehow affect the internal situation in Serbia,” he notes. Proroković points out that it can be concluded that the organization generally advocates and protects Atlantic values.
Darko Trifunovic, professor at the Faculty of Security, estimates that there is a tendency that the Trilateral Commission “is given unfounded epithets,” or that it is associated with the “conspiracy theories”, rather than to emphasize the segment relating to the establishment of the dialogue. “Trilateral always involves dialogue, which is a way of finding solutions to the crisis, in times of peace and in time of conflict. Such discussions are important for overcoming economic difficulties, so that we should welcome all the initiatives undertaken in the specified direction. To illustrate, we saw what happened recently on the example of Serbia and Albania because there was no dialogue. Also, such meetings can help in the process of continuation the talks between Belgrade and Pristina,” said Trifunovic.
World-renowned linguist Noam Chomsky described the Trilateral Commission as a group that advocates “more moderation in democracy, in order to create a passive society that will be obedient and will not limit the power of the state.” In this context, he stated that “Trilateral Commission” especially advocates for greater control of the youth.
