The director of the Serbian government’s Office for Kosmet, Marko Đurić, condemned the tearing down of five of Serb-owned houses in Đakovica/Gjakovë, Kosovo, demanding of the international community and Pristina authorities to prevent such activities and enable safety for Serbs. He emphasized that the Kosovo Albanian extremists had, with that latest attack, clearly showed they did not want to see Serbs, which is a truly bad message and that it was international community and provisional institution representatives in charge of safety that were mostly to blame for the situation. Of the 12,000 of Serbs who lived in Đakovica/Gjakovë until 1999, only four nuns have remained, currently living under police protection.
