Political leaders should learn from religious leaders

Leaders and members of Islamic, Serbian Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant Evangelic, and Jewish communities joined to demonstrate that there is a good spirit of religious tolerance and coexistence without differences in Kosovo. In the second annual inter-faith dialogue organized by the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, religious leaders expressed their dissatisfaction over the lack of the Law on religious communities.

Religious leaders called on political leaders to learn from them to identify a joint solution for making compromises. They joined to demonstrate that there is a good spirit of religious tolerance and coexistence without differences in Kosovo.

Head of Islamic Community of Kosovo (ICK) Mufti Naim Tërnava said that the Islamic Community is open to cooperate and fight extremism of any kind.

“We would like to emphasise once again this issue for the Government of Kosovo to speed up the process of changing and amending the Law on religious freedoms,” Tërnava said.

Kosovo Bishopric Bishop Dodë Gjergji said that people can get a good message from the leaders of religious communities.

On the other hand, Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo Jean-Claude Schlumberger underlined that this conference conveys a powerful message of tolerance.

“Today’s conference offers an opportunity to reaffirm conclusions and recommendations of these last forums and to convey a powerful message of tolerance and promotion of dialogue between all the communities and people in Kosovo,” Ambassador Schlumberger stated.

At the same time, the “Promotion of inter-religious dialogue, results and recommendations” project was presented; while there will also be open discussions on challenges and issues of religious communities in Kosovo.

VLAN calls on Brovina to convene constitutive session

LDK, AAK, Nisma, Vetevëndosje (VLAN) Bloc decided to collect signatures to address the Assembly chairperson Flora Brovina to convene the Assembly constitutive session.

The AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj called on Florina Brovina to convene the continuation of session at the earliest time possible.

Haradinaj refuted the voices that there are hesitations among the Bloc partners. Furthermore, he said that the Bloc is not only unique, but also determined to bring changes in Kosovo no matter the sacrifice. He also said that the agreement of VLAN Bloc will not be redesigned.

However, PDK MP Adem Grabovci said that there cannot be an Assembly session without a prior agreement.

CEC ready to organize elections

The Central Elections Commission (CEC) is ready to organize extraordinary elections, CEC Chairperson Valdete Daka said.

Daka emphasised that she does not know if there will be elections or not, but said that this institution is ready to organize them.

“CEC has the mandate and constitutional obligation to organize elections whenever they are announced by the current President, and the moment that elections are announced we start preparations, while for now we go on with our daily works. In case it is decided to organize elections, than we wait for President’s decree for announcement of elections,” Daka told Kosovapress.

Jahjaga announces new elections, if a solution is not found

Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga expects that political party leaders will identify a solution for establishment of new institutions very soon. As Jahjaga said, she is also engaging personally for this matter; however, in case that political party leaders do not offer options to overcome this situation than Jahjaga does not rule out announcement of extraordinary elections.

“We want solutions and not elections, but in case that leaders of parliamentary political parties do not offer a solution, we need to move forward”, President Jahjaga stated.

She called on political party leaders in Kosovo to leave their personal interests aside and find a solution for building new and sustainable institutions.

RTK1 also reported that due to the current political situation in Kosovo, she decided to annul her visit to Belgrade, Serbia.

Provocative graffiti noted in Zubin Potok

Zubin Potok municipality spokesperson, Srdjan Vucinic, said that graffiti with ‘AKSH’ (National Albanian Army) and ‘ISIS’ inscriptions were noted on Thursday morning at the side walls of the Mitrovicë/Mitrovica-Ribaric regional road, namely in vicinity to Gazivoda hydropower plant.

This is the first case of Islamic State (ISIS) graffiti inscription in Kosovo north. Graffiti of the same content were recently inscribed in several Visoki Decani Monastery buildings.
