Conference of regional public broadcasters concluded

(RTK2 &RTK1)

The two-day conference with representatives of regional public broadcasters concluded on Tuesday in Prishtinë/Pristina.

Challenges of community minorities in their programs and their objectives in public media were discussed on the second day of the conference. It was assessed that RTK stands quite good in relation to the broadcast space allocated to minority communities and, as well for airing programs in five languages.

Rabisha Muhaxheri, RTK editor-in-chief of programs for minority communities, said that they are proud for the air time they have allocated to minority communities in Kosovo. She underlined that RTK budget is one of the obstacles for achieving better program quality.

Representatives of the news exchange network said that the lack of funds, which hinders the increase of program quality, remains a challenge for the public broadcasters in the region.

At the end of the conference a number of conclusions and recommendations were drafted. It was concluded that in order to increase the quality of programing for minorities, public service media should see diversity not as an obligation, but rather as a creative opportunity.

The conference for regional public broadcasters was organized by the OSCE, in cooperation with Radio and Television of Kosovo (RTK) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

During a regional border security conference held in Prishtinë/Pristina, the US Ambassador to Kosovo Tracey Ann Jacobson said that US will support Kosovo security and justice institutions.

Meanwhile, caretaker Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi said that Kosovo has continued to increase its border control capacities in order to cope with challenges and risks deriving from the organized crime.

“Security does not derive from border bunkering, but from empowering trust between nations and states. It is crucial to leave aside our differences and increase the cooperation, as a condition for peace and prosperity in our region,” Thaçi said.

Kosovo acting interior minister Bajram Rexhepi emphasized that Kosovo has demonstrated that it is a contributor to safety in region.

The conference was organized by Kosovo Customs and Police.

Thaçi: No solution to political deadlock without PDK

(All monitored broadcasters &KTV)

Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) is expected to take a position about a way out of political deadlock on Wednesday.

Following a meeting of PDK presidency held on Tuesday, PDK chairperson Hashim Thaçi said that there cannot be a way out of political deadlock without communicating with PDK, as the winner of the June 8 elections. However, he did not rule out the option of a potential coalition with LDK, or any other right-wing political party.

PDK leader has continuously called on other political leaders to accept a joint meeting at the President’s office in order to find a solution for the current political deadlock.

On the other hand, following its presidency meeting, also held on Tuesday, LDK said that they fully support VLAN coalition.

“LDK is intensively working for the coalition of the parliamentary majority, as an absolute representative of majority of Kosovo people, to establish Kosovo institutions as soon as possible”, a LDK press release reads.

Vllahiu: Joint meeting of political parties could end political deadlock

(RTV21)

President’s advisor Arbër Vllahiu said that a joint meeting between all leaders of parliamentary parties and the President, to overcome disagreements, could lead to the solution of the political deadlock.

Vllahiu did not confirm if the President would call such a meeting, but he added that Kosovo is entering a phase where the crisis, not only institutional, but also budgetary, is only worsening.

Municipalities in north refuse to be part of agricultural census

(RTK2 &RTK1)

Although it started well during the preparatory phases, the agriculture census in Kosovo north has failed. No matter that officials from northern municipalities were trained for the agriculture census, at the end they refused to be part of this process.

Isa Krasniqi, Head of the Kosovo Bureau of Statistics, said that four municipalities in Kosovo north are not part of this census. Talking about their refusal, Krasniqi said that this process is technical and not political.
