In the first six months of this year, police in Kosovo has filed more than 500 criminal charges for possessing illegal weapons, which leads to the conclusion that in the hands of the citizens of Kosovo is still a large number of illegal weapons.
Kosovo police spokesman Baki Kelani told Radio Free Europe that the police officers in the first half of this year launched more than 500 cases for possession of illegal weapons.
“The Kosovo Police for possession, ownership and control of illegal weapons, opened 587 cases for the first six months of this year. With regard to the situation after the war, that Kosovo has emerged from, we can say that there are still weapons in the hands of citizens,” he said.
Kelani added that the police have strategic planning, long-term and concrete plans in all regional police departments, which leads to the seizure of these types of weapons.
A police spokesman said that during the summer months at various celebrations, citizens use firearms, with justification, that they are celebrating.
In cases relating to the parties and weddings, Kosovo Police has opened more than 45 cases, 35 criminal complaints were filed, 54 people were arrested and more than 50 weapons of different calibres were seized, reports Radio Free Europe.
