US Secretary of Justice Eric Holder announced that the US will send 70 state prosecutors to the countries of the Balkans, the Middle East and North Africa to help in the fight against terrorists.

Eric Holder sends 70 state prosecutors to the Balkans, the Middle East and North Africa, with the support of the Bureau for Combating Terrorism of the US Department of State, The Ministry of Justice appointed for the key areas federal prosecutors and state councillors (…) in order to cooperate with countries seeking to improve their capacity in conducting the investigation and bringing foreign terrorist fighters to justice – said last night Holder at a news conference after a meeting with European counterparts.

Holder said that the cooperation will be realized in the field of “information exchange, investigation, prosecution and combating violent extremism.” State prosecutors will work in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo and Serbia, as well as the countries of North Africa and the Middle East, “from Algeria and Morocco to the west of Africa,” said an unnamed official of the Ministry of Justice, according to AFP.

The official said that prosecutors will not “introduce the American legal system,” but will determine whether a country has “laws that are in line with the UN Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism.” He added that the countries were selected according to “American assessment”.
