Director of the Kosovo Police, Shpend Maxhuni, called Serb returnees to join the Kosovo police Service (KPS). Maxhuni said that it would contribute to the reduction of incidents to which returnees are exposed. During the visit to the returnee village Drsnik near Klina/Kline, Maxhuni said that attacks on returnees and their property can be prevented by better cooperation between the returnees and the police.
Representative of returnees in the village Drsnik, Miomir Ribać, pointed out that in this village five returnees’ houses were burned, and that more than 20 houses have been looted.
In the delegation that visited returnees in the village Drsnik in Istok/Istog were the representative of the US Embassy, Cameron Fisher, the commanders of the Police Stations in Pec/Peja, Klina/Kline and Istok/Istog Shaban Shala, Rexha Berisha and Enver Gashi, as well Kosovo Interior Minister, Bajram Rexhepi.
Police commander for the region of Pec/Peja, Shaban Shala, said that security level in the Pec region was increased for all citizens, especially for returnees and stressed that it is difficult to protect empty houses from the thieves.
Kosovo Interior Minister Bajram Rexhepi said that one of his priorities is the protection of Serb returnees and their property, and added that he insisted for a long time to increase the security level in the returnee villages.
Minister for Return and Communities in Kosovo Government, Dalibor Jevtic, requested recently from the authorities in Klina/Kline written report on the number of incidents in the returnee villages and number of solved cases.
