The UN Security Council tomorrow on Kosovo (Vesti)

The UN Security Council tomorrow to discuss the situation in Kosovo on the basis of regular reports by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in which he expressed concern over the political deadlock in Pristina.

The Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic earlier had announced participation in the session in New York, and the outgoing Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci already went.

“I am particularly concerned about the prolonged political stalemate in Pristina and the negative consequences that it might have on the current progress in strengthening democratic institutions and processes in Kosovo,” said the report of the Secretary General for the period from 16 July to 15 October this year.

Ban Ki-moon made a strong appeal to all Kosovo political entities, especially their leaders, to make further efforts to make elections of June 8 successful and to overcome the current impasse.

In the report, Ban Ki-moon, which the UN Security Council would discuss tomorrow, it is stated that the current generation of leaders must continue the historic process of normalizing relations with Belgrade, reconcile with the past, take advantage of opportunities provided through negotiations on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU and continue reforms that will allow further development of Kosovo’s economy and society.

Ban Ki-moon “congratulated progress of the Kosovo authorities and the Government of Serbia towards a common European future” and encouraged the continuation of high-level dialogue under the auspices of the EU.

Ban expressed his satisfaction with the work of the Kosovo Police in dealing with the problem of violent extremism, especially when it comes to involvement in foreign conflicts.

He praised the leaders of the Islamic community and other religious and secular leaders in Kosovo because they distanced themselves from extremism. Ban Ki-moon has called on the government to make further efforts to preserve the cultural and religious heritage.

UN Secretary-General appealed to political leaders, civil society and individuals who have relevant information about the fate of the missing during the conflict.

He praised the commitment of the experts in forensic medicine from Serbia, EULEX and Kosovo in the process of returning the remains of victims discovered in a mass grave in the mines.
