In the last two days the Office of the Language Commissioner has received nineteen complaints from journalists regarding violations of the law on the use of languages.

In his communiqué, Language Commissioner, Slavisa Mladenovic, criticized central Kosovo institutions which failed to meet their legal obligations with regard to the use of official languages, and reminded that institutions are due to inform the public timely and in official languages. Such practice, reads a communiqué, prevents journalists from non-majority communities from reporting about everyday events in Kosovo. Communiqué further says that existing law is a modern one but its implementation in practice is faced with many difficulties.

Language Commissioner requested from relevant authorities to take all necessary measures at all levels in order to provide full implementation of the law on the use of official languages. He also offered assistance for developing adequate procedures and policies aimed at full implementation of the law.
