Coordination for Kosovo’s representation at the UN Security Council (Koha)
Representatives of Kosovo and Serbia could meet by the end of this month in New York if the work plan of the UN Security Council which foresees a meeting on 30 January, is materialized. The agenda of the meeting includes review of the quarterly report on Kosovo and this would be the opportunity for Kosovo Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, to appear before the Security Council for the first time. However, this requires the approval of internal political actors in Kosovo and international institutions. Officials from the President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga’s office said the modalities of representation will be coordinated between local and international authorities.
Kuci admits that special court’s legal basis is being drafted by the EU (Koha)
Minister of Justice, Hajredin Kuci, told KTV that the office of the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Federica Mogherini, is drafting the legal basis for the special court as well as the draft law for its establishment. While the Netherlands has expressed readiness to host the court, KTV notes that all courts in The Hague has an international character and this increases the risk of the special court being as such or, in the worst case scenario, also involve the UN Security Council in its mandate.
Vehicle insurance policies to be discussed this month (Zeri)
Kosovo’s chief negotiator, Edita Tahiri, said that agreement on vehicle insurance policies between Pristina and Belgrade is expected to be signed this month as they are still waiting for Belgrade’s consent. “The Serbian side has asked for more time to approve it but the draft agreement stays as it is”, said Tahiri.
LDK announces party elections (dailies)
Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) led by Isa Mustafa has announced internal party elections which will begin on 10 March and end on 15 May. At the same time, the party’s general council, its leader and presidency will be elections at the end of May. Mustafa said they will make all efforts to ensure free and fair elections. He also added that there is still no candidate for LDK leader as the candidacies will be announced once the election process begins.
Mustafa “scolds” Jablanovic (Zeri)
Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, said he is glad the Minister for Communities and Returns, Aleksandar Jablanovic, has retracted his statement about Gjakova/Djakovica protesters because “no one can call citizens beasts despite of what they think”.
