Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has assessed that many obstacles are in Serbia’s path toward the EU membership, including the issue of Kosovo, and he invited Brussels to no stipulate Serbia’s association process with severing the ties with Moscow.
In an authored article for the “Horizons” magazine, Lavrov pointed out that Kosovo remains a serious challenge, because Pristina believes that Belgrade’s recognition of Kosovo is the price of admission to the EU. He has assessed that Belgrade should make independent decisions on all those aspects. We start with the fact that Serbia is a sovereign state that exercises an independent foreign policy, including the European integrations, Lavrov underlined. He added that Serbia’s decision to choose the membership in the EU while maintaining friendship with Russia is a sovereign choice that deserves respect.
