Bank accounts of four municipalities in northern Kosovo are blocked as of yesterday without any justification, said president of the local assembly of North Mitrovica Ksenija Bozovic to RTK2, and added that it is about a pressure which benefits no one.

Bozovic stressed that budgets of all four municipalities have been adopted as stipulated by laws and the Brussels Agreement and that there is no basis for the blockade. “Municipal Assembly of North Mitrovica has brought two decisions on budget, however we hear some unofficial stories that they are planning to introduce some extraordinary measures, simply they are moving toward the dissolution of the municipal assembly. They don’t have legal basis for that, we can understand it as another additional pressure, what doesn’t’ benefit anyone at this very moment,” said Bozovic and added that municipality North Mitrovica has not received any decision so far about introduction of extraordinary measures.

Kosovo government earlier announced possibility of blockade of budgets of municipalities in the north with justification that they are not legal. Such motion was announced last month in Brussels by the Minister without portfolio in the Kosovo government in charge for dialogue, Edita Tahiri. Apparently, Pristina deems disputable the fact that municipalities in the north have not  included expenses for education and health sectors in their respective budgets, whereas northern municipalities refuse to include it because Belgrade and northern Serbs plan is that those sectors are financed through future Association/Community of Serb municipalities.
