President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga met on Friday with members of the National Council for Survivors of Sexual Violence during War. Jahjaga said that the mandate of this council will be extended, adding that rehabilitation and protection of victims of sexual violence is a priority for her. She urged the government of Kosovo to fulfill its duties regarding the process of rehabilitation and compensation to these victims.
The British Ambassador to Kosovo, Ian Cliff, said that “Kosovo as a state and society should treat this phenomenon with caution, and not with pomposity.” Meanwhile, the EU Rule of Law Mission (EULEX) chief, Gabriele Meucci, indicated that this mission has prosecuted 14 cases of sexual crimes during war and added that EULEX is doing everything in its power to catch people who are responsible for these crimes.
