The Director of the Office for KIM, Marko Djuric rejected the possibility of the integration of Civil Protection in the north Kosovo into the Kosovo armed forces, pointing out that none of them will lose their jobs or income.
On the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO, the session dedicated to the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, said that an arrangement was made by which members of the unarmed composition will be integrated into the emergency services in the province.
The government of Kosovo has earlier announced that Pristina and Belgrade with the mediation of the EU reached an agreement that involves the dissolution of Civil Protection in the north of Kosovo and that its members would integrate into the Kosovo institutions, which was one of the questions of parliamentarians.
Among the parliamentarians as observers were the deputies of the Kosovo parliament – Nenad Rasic from the Progressive Democratic Party and Zenun Pajazit of the Democratic Party of Kosovo.
Djuric reminded that on removing the Peace park from the bridge over the Ibar River in Mitrovica was not reached an agreement in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. Djuric said that solution should find Mayors (of southern and northern Mitrovica), adding that MP Pajazit “probably was not informed by the Kosovo government (what has been agreed in July 2014).”
He expressed his willingness to resolve the issue on insurance for cars with Kosovo license plates that cross the administrative crossings, pointing out that the problem are some of the European countries that have recognized Kosovo’s independence but have not recognized their insurance policies.
Djuric reiterated that Belgrade’s priority objective is the creation of conditions for the survival and prosperity of the Serbs in Kosovo, and that no one should be afraid of creating a Community/Association of Serbian municipalities, as provided for in the Treaty of Brussels.
According to him, instead to work on the implementation of the provisions of the Brussels Treaty in relation to the ZSO, “interim provincial institutions”, with an attitude that Serbia should recognize Kosovo’s independence, continue to provoke and block the implementation of the Brussels Treaty. Djuric also recalled that on such requests, Belgrade answers that Serbia will never recognize Kosovo’s independence, pointing out that the theme of dialogue is solving life’s questions, not status.
Djuric attitudes regarding the independence of Kosovo and the use of terms such as “interim provincial institutions,” were criticized by the researcher at the Centre for the Study of the EU at the University of Ghent, Krenar Gashi.
Gashi said that it was a “medieval approach to solving problems” that needs to be changed, adding that “Serbia will not join the EU until it recognizes the independence of Kosovo.” “In Kosovo, we are very pleased with our independence and I hope that Serbia will not be a problem,” he said, adding that “relations between Belgrade and Pristina will be normalized when visits, such as the recent of Ivica Dacic to Pristina, become usual, and not a special activities”.
